ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIP
INTRODUCTION
The NOHA European Master's in International Humanitarian Action has been selected by the European Commission among the first Erasmus Mundus masters courses for five years. This implies that the European Commission will grant scholarships to highly qualified third-country graduate students and scholars - to students to follow the NOHA Mundus Masters Course, to scholars to carry out teaching and research assignments and scholarly work in the NOHA universities participating in the Course.
Third-country graduate student:
Third-country graduate student means a national of a third country other than those from EEA-EFTA States and candidate countries for accession to the European Union; who has already obtained a first higher education degree; who is not a resident of any of the Member States or the participating countries (EEA-EFTA States and EU candidate countries for accession); who has not carried out his or her main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the Member States or the participating countries.
The amount of the student grant is EUR 35, 600. Each grantee will receive EUR 1,600 each month for living costs during the 16 months duration of the program plus a fixed amount of EUR 10,000 to be paid in two instalments of EUR 5,000 each per year.
Third-country students eligible for receiving an Erasmus Mundus scholarship fall into two different categories: one general category in which grantees can come from any third country and one specific category ("Asian windows") in which funds are earmarked for nationals from specific Asian countries.
With regard to the general category NOHA consortium will reserve a 13 to 18 places for third-country students and 3 to 4 places for third-country scholars every year.
With regard to the specific category ("Asian windows") the NOHA consortium will have the possibility to select 8 or 9 additional Asian students every year.
Third-country scholar:
Third-country scholar means a national of a third country other than those from EEA- EFTA States and candidate countries for accession to the European Union; who is not a resident of any of the Member States or the participating countries as provided for in Article 11; who has not carried out his or her main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the Member States or the participating countries; and who has outstanding academic and/or professional experience.
The amount of the scholar grant is EUR 13, 000. Each scholar will receive EUR 4,000 each month for a period of 3 months and a fixed amount of EUR 1,000.

Entry Requirements and Joint Admission Criteria
The admission to the NOHA Masters on Humanitarian Action degree programme may be granted to applicants who meet the following common admission criteria:
• Candidates must have completed a good level first cycle degree in a discipline of relevance to humanitarian action.
• Candidates are required to have a recognised qualification in the language(s) of instruction of the university that they plan to attend:
• Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), Belgium : English and French
• Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), Germany : English
• Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III (UPCAM), France : French (Description)
• University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland: English
• Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG), The Netherlands: English
• Universidad de Deusto (UD), Spain : Spanish
• Uppsala universitet, Sweden: English
• Knowledge of languages of the place of study is an asset.
• Practical experience in the area of humanitarian action in governmental, inter-governmental, and/ or nongovernmental organisations and institutions is valued.
• Completed applications received.
• Selection criteria include motivation; academic qualifications; language skills; research experience and professional experience.
REGISTRATION FEE: Euro 10,000 for the whole study programme (3 semesters) to be paid to the network.
Students receive as part of the grant a fixed amount of 10,000 to be paid in two instalments of 5,000 each per year. In order to facilitate the management of the transfer of the lump sum and the registration fee and, in order to reduce costs for money transfer, students can authorise the NOHA Mundus Consortium to deduct the registration fee from the lump sum.

Southeast Asia Research Fellowship Programme for Young Muslim Scholars 2007

"Popular
Islam" focuses on encouraging researchers to examine ways in which
Islamic beliefs and practices reach all believers and are reflected
through various means of religious. communication such as studying
Khutbah in local mosques, reading Islamic booklets, and/ or listening
to Muslim radio programs. The question of how Islam can shape and
influence, while at the same time is being shaped by, the lives of
ordinary Southeast Asian Muslims in various local contexts is just one
aspect of this topic that could be analyzed.
Globalization and Identity Politics Muslimcommunities in Southeast Asia are not immune from globalization processes. New forms of economic and political integration on a world scale and the accelerated flows of goods, people and information across
the globe all create new opportunities and challenges for Muslims in the region. The interaction of global and regional forces with local processes has been perceived both as a threat to Muslim identities and as beneficial to the development of a new transnational Islam. This research theme seeks to explore how Muslim identities in Southeast Asia are formed and shaped by regional and globalizing forces.
Islam and Changing Gender Realities Rapidly evolving social, cultural and economic processes are leading to unprecedented changes in the societal roles of men and women. Muslim communities in Southeast Asia are being confronted with a diversity of
values and lifestyles expressing multiple definitions of gender roles and relationships not always in line with dominant values. This research area encourages researchers to examine how gender roles in both the public and private sphere are changing for Muslims in Southeast Asia and relate those changes to current Theological and political debates.
Islam Values, Economic Activities and Social Responsibilities Studies in this area should examine how Islamic values and institutions can provide alternative economic options to those perceived as condradictory to Qur`anic principles such as riba. Area of focus could include identifying how Islamic economic values work in a modern
business environment, analysis of indigenous entrepreneurial models that have been or can be utilized for local level empowerment and/ or studies of the lives of entrepreneurs and the ways Islamic values shape and are re-shaped by their economic activities and social responsibilities.
Eligibility Candidates must be nationals of Southeast Asian countries, hold at least a Bachelor degree and should not be over 40 years of age. Candidates may work in
different sectors including academia, media, and non-governmental organizations. Candidate must be highly motivated to deepen their understanding of Islam in the region. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
Fellowship Value The fellowship consists of an average research grant of $5,000 to cover all research costs for a maximum period of six months in the original
country of resercher, and funded participation in mentoring workshops. The Secretariat will arrange for editing, publication and distribution of the report in a "work in progress" series.
Application Procedure To apply for this fellowship program, candidates need to submit a complete research proposal. Proposed research projects should include sufficient

Program Management
The
fellowship program is managed by the AMAN secretariat, which is housed
at the Asian Resource Foundation (ARF) in Bangkok, Thailand.
AMAN
was established in 1990 with the goal of building understanding and
solidarity among Muslims and with other faith communities in Asia
towards people`s empowerment, human rights, justice and peace. AMAN`s

society and secularism, India as chairman.

Hubert H. Humphrey fellowships ( US )
Hubert H. Humphrey fellowships enable Indonesian mid-career professionals to participate in non-degree programs that combine academic course work at the graduate level with professional development activities in the U.S. for a period of one academic year (9 months). Candidates are typically administrators in leadership positions with a minimum of five years of work experience who represent either the public or non-profit private sectors, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) who are committed to public service. Applicants will possess:

GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The American Indonesia Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) is pleased to announce the availability of Fulbright scholarships to study in the United States for the 2009 – 2010 academic year. The primary focus of the Fulbright Program in Indonesia is to promote mutual understanding between the Republic of Indonesia and the United States of America through educational exchange and academic scholarship. Fulbright scholarships are available to Indonesian citizens with the appropriate qualifications as stipulated in the program descriptions listed below.
FULBRIGHT ASEAN VISITING SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2008-09
Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore
The Fulbright Program is pleased to announce a new opportunity for Fulbright Visiting Scholars, The Fulbright ASEAN Visiting Scholars Program. The purpose of this new initiative is to provide opportunities for travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research on issues central to the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. The program is open to university faculty, foreign ministry and government officials, and professional staff of think tanks and other NGOs in ASEAN member nations.
PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES
For 2008-09, the inaugural year of the program, applications will be invited from interested individuals in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
ELIGIBILITY
University faculty, foreign ministry and government officials, and professionals in think tanks and other NGOs whose work focuses on ASEAN-U.S. issues are eligible to apply. Fields of inquiry may include economics, political economy, foreign policy, international relations, and history, including such relevant sub-specialties as security, trade, and cultural issues directly related to the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. Applicants will be expected to have a significant record of scholarly or professional accomplishment; they must be citizens of their countries; and they must be proficient in English. Preference will be given to qualified applicants who have not had recent and substantial experience in the United States.
PROJECTS
Proposals should be carefully developed projects that will deepen the applicant’s understanding of one or more aspects of the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. While it is expected that the majority of time will be spent in research, grantees are also encouraged to expand and develop their network of professional contacts so that professional relationships established during the grantee’s time in the U.S. can be sustained after the formal grant period has ended. In addition, grantees will be encouraged to seek opportunities to voice the Southeast Asian perspective during their time in the U.S. through guest lectures, seminars, or participation in academic or professional conferences. All applicants are urged to explore possible affiliations with U.S. institutions, including universities, think tanks and research institutes, in advance of submitting their formal applications. Letters of invitation will enable program organizers to make the most suitable affiliations.
DURATION OF AWARD
Award periods are flexible and should be congruent with the needs of the project. The minimum period for an award is two (2) months, the maximum period six (6) months.
AWARD TERMS
Grants will provide a monthly stipend for grantees, together with round-trip air travel, and a book and incidental allowance. A small travel allowance for travel within the U.S. will also be available. A small additional sum will be available for one dependent for grant periods of three months or more.

APPLICATIONS

Fulbright Foreign Language (Bahasa Indonesia)-Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program
Applicants must be English language teachers or currently in training to become an English language teacher and must be able to demonstrate a commitment to English language teaching upon return to Indonesia following the award. The program is for one academic year (9 months) and requires the grantee to teach Indonesian language and culture in the U.S. for 20 hours per week and to enroll in at least two U.S. Studies and/or ESL methodology classes per semester under a full tuition waiver. Applicants who are no older than 29 years of age at the time of application will possess:
• a Sarjana (S1) degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.00 scale)
• leadership qualities
• a good understanding of Indonesian and international cultures
• a demonstrated commitment to the chosen field of study
• a willingness to return to their home institution upon completion of the Fulbright program
• a minimum TOEFL score of 550.

The Malaysian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan
The Malaysian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan are awarded by the Malaysian Government to the nominated students from the Commonwealth countries to study at the post- graduate level in Malaysia. This is a Government to Government scheme without any bond imposed by Malaysia.
ELIGIBILITY :
Applicants must be the Commonwealth citizens or British protected persons residing in countries of the Commonwealth other than Malaysia as listed in Appendix II. Applicants must be a graduate of a University or College in their own countries or holders of an equivalent qualification. Applicants must have a minimum standard of upper second class honours or CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at bachelor`s degree level.
In addition, applicants for PhD must possess very good result at Master degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. Scholarship will not be awarded to candidates wishing to undertake undergraduate studies, post-doctoral research, clinical training or second Master/PhD degree. Scholarship will be valid for only one degree and not eligible for continuation to another higher degree.
TENURE OF AWARDS :
The awards for Masters degree are between 12 to 24 months depending on the courses. Awards for pursuing PhD degree are for 3 years. The academic term in Malaysia commences in July but candidates may also register in the second semester commencing in December. The Awards are only applicable for candidates pursuing full-time degree programme in Malaysia.
VALUE OF AWARDS :
The value of the award has been designed to accommodate the scholar`s need throughout his/ her studies which covers the scholar`s living, study and travel expenses during tenure of the scholarship.Each scholarship consists of:
• a return air tickets from recipient`s capital city to Malaysia;
• an approved tuition fees by the respective university;
• monthly maintenance allowance; a yearly grant for books and internal travel;
• thesis allowance, installation and termination grant.
• Family allowance for accompanying spouse or children.
PLACEMENT IN MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITIES
University`s application for admission is solely the candidate`s responsibility. Proof of admission is not a pre-requisite to the award. Selection committee for Commonwealth Scholarship will only consider qualified applicants with outstanding academic achievement and professional performance.
Interested applicants are advised to apply before the beginning of the academic year which falls on the month of July for most of Malaysian university. The scholarship awarded does not guarantee a placement in the university. Admission to any program is by way of applications to the university. Applications must abide to the requirement and procedure for admission set by the university.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF AWARDS :
The following conditions apply to all scholarship holders : Scholarship holders must not change their programme during tenure of the scholarship except with written permission from their university and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. Scholarship holders must follow the approved programmes and abide by the university`s rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
Any suspension from the university will result in immediate suspension of the award. Monthly allowances are not payable during suspension. Scholarship holders are responsible for securing an appropriate entry visa including medical examination. Scholarship holders must maintain satisfactory progress and good standing as stipulated by their host university and degree programme, or the scholarship will be withdrawn. Any periods of leave must be approved by the university and in accordance with the purposes of the Commonwealth Scholarship. It is expected that leave will be normally spent in Malaysia, but the university may approve a short period spent overseas.
A student wishing to travel overseas for an extended period would first need to establish medical or compassionate grounds before Immigration clearance could be obtained. Expenses for such travel are not included in the scholarship. The scholarships are tenable in Malaysian universities and research will normally be carried out in Malaysia. If appropriate it may be possible for a limited amount of research to be carried out in scholar`s home country but financing of such an arrangement would be the responsibility of the scholar. Scholarships holders are not allowed to take any paid employment in Malaysia during their tenure unless with written approval from the host university. Upon termination of studies, scholarships holders are expected to return to their respective home countries immediately This award is only given once to any successful applicant.

• A certified copy of the applicant`s current passport showing evidence of citizenship;
• The applicant`s academic records, testimonials and/ or references relating to the relevant study, co-curricullum activities, achievements;
• A letter from certified doctor declaring the applicant`s good health;
• Passport-size photograph (2 copies);
• Completed Medical Report;
• A clear and precise study or research plan;
• English language proficiency certificate or test score (if any);
• Admission letter for post-graduate study (if any); and
• Two letters of appraisal.

All certificates and related documents submitted must be certified by a recognised official or by the institution that issued the documents and must bear the official stamp and signature of the certifier. Official translation in English is required if the transcript is in other languages. The nominating agency is responsible for nominating candidates for the MTCP Scholarship and is expected: to disseminate information about MTCP Scholarships as widely as possible especially to all government agencies and public institutions of higher learning; to ensure all applications are completed according to requirements; to ensure that only qualified applicants are short listed; to nominate only the best among the applicants; and to assist them for departure, if selected.

Graphs for Abstract Interpretation of Languages (GRAIL)
As more and more systems in our everyday environment contain major software parts, and we are depending on such systems more and more (we are counting on them), the importance of the dependability of the embedded software is increasing. Unfortunately, there are still very few generally applicable methods for software verification, i.e., the ensurance of its correct functioning under all circumstances. Reasons for this are, one the one hand, the degree of expertise necessary for existing verification methods, and on the other, their poor embedding in the average software development trajectory. An important practical objection is, moreover, that current verification methods typically assume the existence of a sufficiently detailed and precise model of system behavior. In practice such models hardly ever exist, and the time and expertise to construct them is missing. Examples of methods that are being used widely in practice are therefore typing and
testing, neither of which necessarily depends on the pre-existence of models.
In this project we investigate a new way of automatically verifying software on the basis of code, without assuming a predefined model. The technique used is static analysis, a general principle that encompasses typing; the new aspect is the use of graph transformations to capture the effect of the software. Graphs offer a natural model for the behaviour of dynamic software systems, and at the same time offer the basis for a generic form of static analysis, which can be driven by the properties to be verified.

• You should have a MSc or equivalent degree in computer science or a closely related area, or be able to show that you will receive the degree this year (2007). Familiarity with formal verification, abstract interpretation and/or and graph transformations is considered an advantage. You are expected to cooperate in an internationally oriented research environment. Good English speaking and writing skills are demanded, as well as the willingness to learn Dutch. You will enroll in the PhD programme of the Dutch Institute for Programming Research and Algorithmics (IPA).

• The selected candidate will be appointed for a period of 4 years with a gross salary starting at ¤ 1956 per month (first year) and reaching EUR 2502 per month (final year), plus an 8% holiday allowance and other benefits.

Commonwealth Scholarships
Presently, the Commonwealth Scholarship applications for 2008 are not open as the University is awaiting confirmation of Federal Government changes to the Commonwealth Scholarships Program. In this project we will investigate, compare, and integrate functionality-driven approaches and economics-driven approaches to the problem of estimating cost for cross-organizational Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementations. Specifically, the COSMOS project will seek to answer to the following key questions:
1. What are the essential cost drivers to be considered for inclusion in cost estimation models for a set of interdependent ERP projects carried out in cross-organizational settings?
2. How are ERP costs and benefits shared among the actors in a value network?
3. What is the relationship between organizational factors (e.g. the degree of project management control) and the accuracy of ERP project estimates?
4. How to measure size of cross-organizational ERP projects based on functionality
5. How to assess the goodness-of-fit of cost models in real life cross-organizational settings?
6. How elements of real-options thinking and portfolio management concepts could be incorporated into existing ERP effort estimation practices?
7. How to incorporate estimation activities into the requirements engineering process for cross-organizational ERP?
We will investigate these questions by a combination of quantitative research, case study research, action research, and qualitative research methods with our industrial partners.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary research team to deliver:
• a multidimensional size and effort estimation framework for cost estimation of networked ERP implementation projects,
• a requirements engineering approach to networked ERP projects that incorporates cost estimation and risk assessment activities, and
• a success model that will help network partners visualize and reason about what will distinguish a successful networked ERP project from a failed one.
The Ph.D. student will be actively involved in case studies with partners from industry to assess current ERP cost estimation practices, re-define and improve existing approaches, validate proposed methods, and define a cost-and-risk-driven requirements engineering process for networked ERP projects.
We are looking for the following qualifications:
• A Master Degree in information systems or a comparable discipline such as software engineering, software metrics, or computer science;
• good communication and interpersonal skills. The main task of the PhD student will be to carry out collaborative research at the interface between theory and industry practice, but he/she will be given the opportunity to acquire some teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

The project will investigate the observational technologies and practices economists use and used to identify their objects of study and to investigate their nature. Position Financial Algebra School of Mathematical Sciences
A Ph.D. position for carrying out arbitrage analysis of currency exchange rates using max-plus algebra, is currently available in the School of Mathematical Sciences, University College Cork, Ireland under the supervision of Professor Bernard Hanzon. The research in Financial Mathematics carried out in this PhD position will explore new possibilities to analyze arbitrage opportunities, or to prove that no-arbitrage conditions
hold, and to construct and apply algorithms for this purpose. This forms part of a larger research project in Financial Algebra.
