KSOP Masters Education. We believe that a Ph.D. graduate school is unlikely to be successful without the background / infrastructure and the “funneling / filtering” through a corresponding associated, interdisciplinary coordinated masters program, aiming at attracting excellent students from abroad.
36 students per year can be admitted to our masters program. The best students of the masters program are supported by the KSOP Scholarship Program. Access to the KSOP masters education is granted via an application procedure.
A study plan is developed for each individual masters student (corresponding to his/her educational background) when entering the KSOP.
The MSc. course is divided into four stages providing the students with the necessary prerequisites
(Stage I: Introduction) , to give them a solid background on the most important topics within the wide and diverse field of Optics and Photonics
(Stage II: Core Subjects) and let them acquire specialized knowledge
(Stage III: Specialization) to be able to competently perform a six-month research project on a current topic of research (masters thesis). In addition, an 8-weeks industrial internship is scheduled between stages 2 and 3.
Scholarship
The KSOP scholarship amounts to 800 Euro/month for international students and 400 Euro/month for German students. Part of the scholarship is a research assistantship. Within the scope of this assistantship, you will have the opportunity to work on a research project in one of the KSOP institutes.

Amsterdam Merit Scholarships for Bachelor`s and Master at Univeristy of Amsterdam
The Univeristy of Amsterdam aims to attract the world`s brightest students to its international classrooms. As from September 2007, outstanding students from outside the European Economic Area can apply for an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship.
The Amsterdam Merit Scholarships (AMS) have specifically been designed by the Universiteit van Amsterdam to offer talented and hard-working non-EU/EEA students the opportunity to pursue a degree in one of the academic fields covered by the UvA. The AMS programme is highly selective: only applicants with excellent study results and motivation may receive a scholarship.
EU member states
The European Economic Area (the European Uni0n plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) includes the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Non-EU/EEA
If you do not hold a passport from one of the countries listed above, then you are a non-EU/EEA student.
Requirements for eligibility
1. Candidates wishing to take part in the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship programme must meet the following requirements:
2. Hold a non-EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (”Studiefinanciering”; for more information please refer to: www.ib-groep.nl). The scholarship office should be notified as soon as possible of any change in nationality, type of residence permit, and/or possible “Studiefinanciering” support, throughout the academic year.
3. Be fully admitted to a degree programme at the Universiteit van Amsterdam which is registered at the Central Register of Higher Education Programmes (CROHO; for more information refer to: www.ib-groep.nl).
4. For more information about general application requirements, please consult the individual programme descriptions at www.uva.nl/isp for study programmes taught in English, or www.uva.nl/applicat ion for study programmes taught in Dutch.
5. Scholarship continuation is not guaranteed when a candidate changes his or her degree programme.
6. Be admitted to a bachelor`s or master`s programme at the Universiteit van Amsterdam for the first time. AMS will not be awarded to candidates who are admitted for a second bachelor`s or master`s programme at the Universiteit van Amsterdam.
7. Be able to comply with Dutch visa regulations (follow the link to the IND website below).
8. Be enrolled at the UvA as full-time student for the academic year and the programme for which the scholarship is awarded.
9. The candidate should not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the AMS scholarship. Notify the scholarships office when another full scholarship such as HSP, Alban, NFP, etc. has been awarded and which scholarship has been chosen to accept.
10. Scholarship continuation for subsequent year(s) of study depends upon satisfactory study progress. The programme you will be enrolled in, as it depends on the curriculum and rules and regulations of the department, sets the standard for satisfactory progress, the time and manner in which progress will be measured. Please be advised that you are expected to gain approximately 80% of credits in any one year.
11. The programme you wish to apply for might set extra requirements such as academic and language requirements. Please see the faculty information below for more information.
APPLICATION
• The faculties and international schools award scholarships themselves; as such, regulations may vary. Students interested in an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship may contact the faculty or international school offering the study programme of their choice for more information.

Scholarships
Selection criteria
Applicants will be selected based on their previous academic career and on their Curriculum Vitae.
Amount of the scholarship
The gross amount of the Biella Campus scholarship is 10.000 Euro per year (30.000 Euro for the complete period). The exact net sum is dependent upon the individual tax conditions of each student, which can be verified only upon the arrival of the student. The amount of the scholarship will not be increased in case the student will need more time to graduate than indicated. The allocation of the scholarship is dependent upon the submission, within 10 days from the arrival in Italy of the student, of the original documentation, which must correspond with the documentation attached to the online form (see the "Selection outcomes" section below).
Payment of the scholarship occurs periodically. The first instalment is dependent upon the possession of the relevant documentation (residence permit, Italian fiscal code, and bank account in the name of the scholarship recipient), all obtainable upon arrival in Italy; for this reason, the first instalment is not paid at the moment of arrival at the Politecnico di Torino, but in the course of the following months (most probably November).
Requirements to maintain the scholarship.
Given that it is not possible to combine the benefits received from more than one scholarship, students who are assigned another study grant while receiving the Biella Campus scholarship must promptly notify the Politecnico di Torino. Payment of the scholarship will be suspended if the academic performance of the recipient does not meet a satisfactory level.
How to apply
To apply, students must, under the penalty of being excluded from the selection process:
COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
Deadlines:
Application deadline: 8 p.m. (Italian time) on March 22nd, 2009.
Method: fill in the online application form by first registering and providing your biographical information, logging in and choosing your level and degree program, and subsequently submitting the application. Students must also provide information on their previous educational career, language abilities and work experience, and they must attach the necessary documentation in pdf format. After having completed these steps, the application for a scholarship will be considered complete.
N.B. The scholarship or project for which the applicant is eligible is not specified in the application form, since the Politecnico will automatically assess your eligibility for the Biella Campus scholarship based on the information you provide. At the end of the selection process, the Politecnico di Torino will inform you if you have been selected for a Biella Campus scholarship (see the "Selection outcomes" section below).
We advise students to go to the Italian Embassy or Consulate to inform themselves on the necessary requirements to obtain an entry visa in Italy.
