Call for applications: TDR Fellowship on Project Management of Tropical
Diseases Research*
• The above Fellowship is a time-limited post-graduate training
opportunity funded by TDR. The Fellowship will be in the SEA Regional Office
located in New Delhi, India. The monthly stipend is set at US$2500 per month
in addition to other minor benefits. The duration of the Fellowship is
initial one-year, renewable for a second year subject to mutual agreement.

Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) and the WHO
South East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) invite nationals from the WHO South
East Asia Region (SEA) to apply for a 12-24 month fellowship on Project
Management of Tropical Diseases Research. The training involves a placement
in the WHO Regional Office (New Delhi) working with the professional staff
involved located in the Departments of Communicable Diseases (CDS) and
Health System Development (HSD).

Summary of the Training Programme and Activities
Under the supervision of CDS and VBC/SEARO-TDR/SEARO focal point, the
successful candidate will perform the following tasks:
In coordination with the technical units involved in TDR/SEARO, assist VBC/SEARO unit-the focal point TDR/SEARO in administration of SEARO/TDR Small Grants Scheme including: preparation of call for applications, review of proposals for funding, preparing and conducting Selection Committee meetings.

Assist VBC/SEARO-TDR/SEARO focal point in preparation of TSA for selected projects, active follow-up of the projects’ implementation, analysis of reports, disseminating the new research information and promoting utilisation of the results by the control programmes.
Promote TDR activities at all levels with the aim of improving tropical disease control in SEA countries including preparation of research methodology workshops, strengthen coordination and communication among all relevant unites in SEARO and TDR/HQ.

Develop comprehensive SEARO/TDR computerized database based on the already available database for SEARO/TDR Small Grant Scheme. Produce specific outputs from the database (reports, circular letters, website entries, etc.), as needed.

Prepare research portfolio containing summaries of final reports of the research projects to ensure communicating the results of the TDR research projects to all concerned parties. Support TDR/HQ activities in the region as requested by TDR/HQ including site visits, preparation of reports for TDR’s Research Strengthening Group (RSG), Scientific & Technical Advisory Committee (STAC), and the Joint Coordinating Board (JCB).

*Eligibility*
Applications are requested from nationals of the WHO South East Asia Region working or involved in the Ministries of Health, academic or research institutions and/or who recently completed a period of post-graduate training (M.Sc., MD or Ph.D.). Preference will be given to candidates under 35 years old, holding an advanced degree in health related sciences. Computer skills (MS Office) are required. A good working knowledge of English is required..

6. A description of the applicant’s current work/research interests
and how this fellowship would contribute to the applicant’s future career (1
page maximum).
7. A list of the applicant’s publications and other abstracts or presentations.
8. A letter of recommendation from two senior scientists/professors/supervisors that includes their address, telephone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail addresses. (Please include with the
application).
9. An endorsement from the director of the applicant’s home institution testifying to the ability of the applicant to successfully undertake the proposed fellowship and certifying that the applicant, if awarded TDR support, will be granted a leave of absence and on completing the training will be assured of a post. The director must also indicate how the proposed fellowship will strengthen the capabilities of the institution.

Post-Doctoral Position at Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (Germany)

Singapore Technologies Engineering Scholarships

RSIS invites applications for the Singapore Technologies Engineering Scholarships. The Singapore Technologies Engineering Scholarship is open to Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and International candidates to pursue the full-time Masters programme at RSIS.

Applicants should have (a) an excellent academic record; and (b) a very good command of the English language.

Terms and Conditions :
Each scholarship is tenable for one year only for full-time Master of Science (Strategic Studies), Master f Science (International Relations), Master of Science (International Political Economy) and Masters of Science (Asian Studies) programmes. Successful candidates are expected to complete their studies within the tenable period. There is no bond attached to the scholarships.

Each scholarship shall cover the following:
• A monthly stipend;
• A book allowance (one-time payment only);
• Thesis Allowance (one-time payment only at the end of the programme);
• A return air-ticket (economy class) from home country to Singapore (if applicable);
• Your tuition and other compulsory fees (as specified by NTU)

MS Graduate Scholarship

SEARCA invites applications for its graduate scholarship (MS and PhD) in agriculture and related fields (including biological sciences, social sciences, economics and statistics, forestry and fisheries, environmental sciences, agro-industrial technology and engineering, and biochemistry) for School Year 2009-2010. The scholarship is open to Southeast Asian nationals, including Indonesians, who are regular employees of academic or research institutions or government agencies and not older than 35 years old.
Applicants may submit their applications to the Head, Bureau for International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education (MONE) in Jakarta. The MONE then submits the list of applicants accompanied by the complete set of requirements to SEARCA not later than 30 July 2008. All applicants are required to check with their Ministries of Education for the deadline of applicants' submission set by the Ministry.
Any one of the following universities may serve as study posts of SEARCA scholars: Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia; Kasetsart University and Thammasat University, Thailand; Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Gadjah Mada and University of Indonesia, all in Indonesia; University of the Philippines (UP) Los Banos, UP Diliman, and UP Visayas, Philippines; and National University of Singapore, Singapore. SEARCA reserves the right to make the final decision on the choice of the scholars' study post. Therefore, applicants are required to submit to SEARCA applications for admission to the Graduate Schools of at least three universities in the list.
The list of requirements for application as well as all the required forms for scholarship application and admission to the graduate study programs of universities where SEARCA scholars may study may be downloaded from the SEARCA website at http://www.searca.org.
The topic of the research that the applicants plan to conduct for their thesis must be in line with the thrusts of SEARCA (i.e., promotion of agricultural competitiveness, sustainable land use and water management, and biodiversity conservation by addressing economic and institutional constraints, expanding access to productive resources and technology, and strengthening local governance capability to deliver agricultural services).


SEARCA shall not evaluate applications with incomplete documents.
Applicants who are denied admission by the Graduate School concerned will not be considered for scholarship.

PhD Research Scholarships

SEARCA invites qualified Indonesians and other Southeast Asians to apply for the following scholarships and grants:
PhD Research Scholarships. Open to students pursuing PhD in agriculture or related fields whose research focuses on SEARCA's priority thrusts, i.e., promotion of agricultural competitiveness and/or natural resource management.

Scholars are required to spend two months at SEARCA, located in the Philippines, and present a seminar related to the research. Scholarship support is up to a maximum of US$8,400 per awardee. Deadlines for application are 1 April 2008 and 1 September 2008.

SEARCA Travel Grants. The grant provides financial support to qualified staff of development-oriented institution or graduate students of reputable universities in Southeast Asia who will present scientific papers in international or local scientific conferences or fora. Travel grant is up to a maximum of US$1,200 per awardee. Applications must be submitted at least two months before the second month of each quarter. The SEARCA Committee on Travel Grants evaluates applications on a quarterly basis (every third week of the last month of every quarter) for travels that fall within the quarter following each evaluation period.
